On December 3 and 4, 2025, the entire REFOLUTION team was hosted by our colleagues at MOEVE for the 36-month project meeting in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid.
Special thanks to Elena Pérez Guevara, Sabino Armenise, and Mariam Romero Vázquez (MOEVE) for the impeccable organization of the event and the lab tour.

During the meeting, we reviewed the current status of the project, starting with a workshop led by SINTEF on alignment with LCA. Among the key topics there was the discussion on the Techno-Economic Assessment (TEA), which the SINTEF team will launch in 2026.
Over the two day we also discussed:
- Sample production for high-fidelity evaluations (VTT demo unit, HPO production)
- Blending strategies for aviation fuels
- Diesel and gasoline analysis
- Distillation and carbon tracing results
- Assessment of blending and hydrotreatment of the co-FCC fraction
- Expansion of hydrotreatment technology
- SDPO blending plans and blend stability
- Observations on the reduction of SDPO’s acid number and phenol number during blending
- Sediment composition analysis
- Evaluation of impact category, climate impact, and SPO composition
We also had the pleasure of hearing from Dietmar Posselt (President bei Aviation Fuel Projects Consulting GmbH & Co. KG). He provided valuable insights into ASTM and OEMS considerations, current co-processing pathways, and plastic waste co-processing. His contributions were particularly enlightening and highly relevant to REFOLUTION.
Next research steps include continuous distillation, combining fractions from different batches for further testing, SPO/HPO production, catalyst improvements and maximizing co-processing rates at the small-scale pilot plant.
